Your tea compliments your outfit.
Exactly. I’m going to drink some tea and be very British.
Do you get much sleep these days with two little kids running around?
I wish! The kids sleep more than I do. I’m jealous they can be cuddled up in that crib. We have crazy hours ‘cause we’re night people most of the time so they’re up throughout the night and then by the time I have to leave the house to go to the office they’re knocked out and sleeping until noon.
When was the moment you knew Mariah was in love with you?
God, that is a good question. I’m not sure if anyone has asked me that before. Man, I would like to believe it was love at first sight but I don’t know if that’s true. I was hoping she loved me the whole time but I would say probably by the end of our first date I felt that way.
So it was early on.
Oh! You know what? No, it was when I was leaving our first trip. The first time we traveled together I actually had to leave early and she really didn’t want me to go.
Where did you take your first vacation?
I think we were on some island like Antigua.
What is the getting ready process like of trying to get the Cannon family out the door?
It takes some time! You have to know it’s probably going to be a three hour process. If you gotta leave by 10 you should start around 7. While my wife is getting ready I’m usually getting the kids ready because I only take like five minutes. She’s just doing her thing, it’s a process. I understand, don’t rush the process! Just go find something else to do.
What’s the best gift you’ve ever received?
In life? Life!
An actual present.
I would say my favorite gift was my wedding ring. Not only because it solidified my union to my dream girl but it’s a pretty nice darn ring. So that’s probably the best tangible material thing.
Do you ever get on one another’s nerves?
My wife would probably say yes! She gets annoyed with me all of the time because I’m always silly and over-the-top. I never get annoyed with her other than the common guy things like taking too long to get ready and all of that stuff but never anything serious.
Is there anything in your career you wish you could take back?
Oh yeah, all of the time. Have you seen my movies? Some of them suck! I never regret anything in my personal life but as a businessman, producer and content provider there are always things where you think, “Aw, man, I wish that would have turned out better.” Because in your mind you start off and think a project is going to be a certain way based off of things like budgetary issues and timing but it doesn’t always pan out the way you want it to. That happens at least once a week.
How do you think your relationship has changed with Mariah since growing your family?
It’s just gotten stronger. You think about how when you first started the relationship it was a union and your only responsibility was to the other person. Now not only do we share that responsibility but we are also parents. It is a different relationship, you talk about different things like what you’re going to do as parents and it’s a conversation looking even longer into the future.
Your family Halloween photos looked cute. Were the costumes the kids’ idea?
Yeah, they wanted to be Superman and Supergirl so I was like, “Alright we can all do it.”
You’re here in Chicago at Macy’s because you launched your own tie line. Who is one person you want to see wearing your ties?
Ellen Degeneres. I gave her a bunch and I said, “Wear one of these at the Oscars!” That would make my day.
How would you describe your tie style?
You have to make a statement but still be classy. Flashy yet classy so, colorful, strong and bold but not over the top. Sometimes if I’m out I’ll see a print and think, “That will be a dope tie!”
If you could have a drink with anyone, who would it be?
Jesus! He drank wine. I’d ask him for salvation!
